The Adventure of a Lifetime
My name is Kiana and I’m from the beautiful Big Island of Hawai’i. I was born there and have never lived anywhere else.
I love my home, but something about travel has always appealed to me. I’ve always wanted to travel to other countries, to immerse myself in something completely unknown to me.
When I was in high school, I took Spanish and decided that, someday, I would like to move to Spain, without a plan, and just figure it out.
I never did do that, but it’s still a dream of mine.
Fast forward to adulthood – I was 31 years old, about to be divorced, and looked back on my life.
I realized that, not only had I never moved to Spain, I hadn’t even been to another state for 10 years.
My dreams of travel started up again. I decided I needed to make up for that somehow.
A few years later, my boyfriend, Dave, and I discussed it and decided that someday we would move to the mainland.
We took a couple trips over the course of a couple years and it cemented the idea in our heads.
Well, as time went on, we got more and more ambitious in our planning.
After a lot of planning and changing our plans and then changing them again, we decided we would do a long road trip and see as much of the lower 48 states as we could.
So, here we are, living in a camper trailer, driving all over the US, learning and seeing things we’ve never been exposed to, and loving it!
We still miss home, but we feel we’ll be better people having pushed ourselves out of our comfort zones. We also know that we’ll be able to find wonderful people and places like we have back home and we’ll always keep Hawai’i in our hearts.
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” – Mark Twain
